A Cosplayer’s Cheat Sheet to the Convention Season – Part 3

Part 3: Post con

You’re going to be exhausted when you get home. You’re going to want to crash and not get up for a while. But wait! Before queueing up the next episode of Game of Thrones and crawling into bed with a box of Pocky, there are a few things a dedicated cosplayer should do first.

  • Unpack your cosplays as soon as you get home.
  • Spot treat stains as needed.
  • Wash by hand what can be washed.
  • If it can’t be washed, let the costumes air out before putting it away.
  • You may also consider dry cleaning some pieces. Anything with a lining, like a suit jacket, can NOT be washed and should be dry cleaned once in a while.
  • Brush out your wigs. Braid long wigs to avoid tangling while in storage. Most wigs are fine in freezer bags. Delicate styles can be put onto wig heads and put on display or stored in a box.
  • Store the pieces for each costume together in dress bags.
    • If you want to get fancy with it, pin a photo with a list of items on the outside of the bag for quick reference.
  • Have a box for all your delicate items that can’t be stored with your costume (Tiaras, masks, small fragile props, etc.)
  • Start planning next years cosplay (If you haven’t already, I mean really?)

You can go back to your episode of Game of Thrones now. Enjoy your convention season this year!
