Star Wars: Rogue One Trailer – Review

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in glee.

The next movie in the Star Wars universe has just received a trailer and it shows a lot of goodies to fans.

True to the Star Wars fashion, the trailer has not shown everything that Rogue One has to offer; although, it does offer plenty of chances for speculation.

We get a closer look at the supposed main character played by Felicity Jones.  Jyn Erso looks like she will be the pushing force in the movie, regardless of having no force powers (that we can see).  There are plenty of shots that take place within a rebel base, possibly being on Yavin 4.  Erso is seen being led through the base in shackles.  Her character has committed crimes against the empire, which would usually be seen as good for the rebels.  There’s a chance that the scene and the voice over are not connected.

Judging from the final segment of the trailer, it is possible that Erso was an imperial and has recently changed sides.

The trailer shows a number of actors in action, including Diego Luna, Donnie Yen and the new antagonist, Ben Mendelshon.  We also get to see Mon Mothma – played by Genevieve O’Reilly – in her iconic robe.  Rogue One will be sticking close to the original costumes, as well as new, more complex costumes, most noticeably being worn by Forest Whitaker.

Many of the actors’ roles have not been confirmed, but Diego Luna’s character shares a likeness to a certain friend of Luke Skywalker.

Some of the notable actors not seen in the trailer are Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk.  Neither of those actors’ roles have been confirmed, although Tudyk is supposedly playing a motion-capture character.

There was a surprising lack of fighter sequences in the trailer for being a story following Rogue Squadron.  It looks like there will be plenty of action regardless, including an AT-AT assault.

Rogue One: a Star Wars Story will be released December 2016.
