The overwhelmingly positive response to Bloodborne was well deserved. The gorgeous backdrops, gruesome enemies, and gameplay not unlike, but a little more forgiving than that of a Dark Souls game, were a recipe for success.
And after the adventure that was the Old Hunters DLC, Bloodborne isn’t done with us yet.
In the footsteps of XCOM: The Board Game, Bloodborne is being made into a board game. Previously referred to as ‘Project Dream’ by creator Eric Lang, he aimed to “channel the intensity and frustration of the video game into a contest between players.” Sounds like something that shouldn’t be played among siblings. Or couples. Basically anyone who will take those vulgar, yet creative insults usually shouted at a TV screen to heart.
Bloodborne the board game is based on Bloodborne the Playstation game’s Chalice Dungeons, but this time there’s no working together. Unlike the Playstation version, the board game’s rounds are said to take around 30 minutes to complete. Not 30 hours. Or, for some, 30 days. During the 30 minute rounds, players will compete to kill monsters and take their blood in the card version of the game.
Eric Lang, like it’s predecessor, promises ‘lots of death’. Whither he’s referring to the monsters or the unfortunate fate of your friends beside you remains to be determined.
