When you think of Ottawa, this beautiful Capital of Canada of ours… you don’t really get the nerdy vibe do you? Well little did you know that we were sitting on a few good nerdy facts that you should know!
1. In winter, the Rideau Canal in downtown Ottawa, becomes the largest skating rink in the world (7.8 km).
One of my favourite places to be in the winter. Grab your skates, grab your mittens and don’t forget to buy yourself a Beaver Tail!
2. There are over 35 major festivals in Ottawa. The Canadian Tulip Festival, held every May, is one of the most famous.
I make sure to visit this every year. Take full advantage of the beautiful weather, the beautiful view and the beautiful smell of the tulips.
3. Visitors to Ottawa can stay in a hostel that used to be a jail in the 19th Century.
Located on 75 Nicholas St, we recommend you go and see it. Not only is it a cool place to stay the night, its almost like visiting a museum!
4. There are more than 14 museums in Ottawa, but the Canadian Museum of History is the most visited museum in Canada.
With new exhibitions happening regularly, you can easily visit each museum multiple times and spend the entire day with ease!
5. Ottawa is the seventh coldest capital in the world with a 10 year average. Others that are colder include in order of coldest first  are Ulaan-Baatar in Mongolia, Astana in Kazakhastan, Moscow, Helsinki, Reykjavik in Iceland and Tallin in Estonia. Over the last 3 years, Ottawa has ranked 1st as the coldest capital in the world!
And here I am complaining about the cold each and every year! I could only imagine how the other capitals are feeling!
