Moving Out is going to be one of your favourite games to play when quarantine ends. This game has you and up to 3 friends working at a moving company, packing up items from customer’s houses as fast as possible. It’s cartoonish, absolutely insane, and I can only imagine how much better it will be when I don’t have to play alone.
Small items can be picked up and simply thrown, damage isn’t something you need to worry about. Is there a window in your way? Smash through it! Got a fragile item? Throw it and have a friend catch it, no big deal! Cause as much mayhem as you can, as long as you get all the important items out of the house in a timely manner. There are hilarious bonus objectives, such as bringing a pet turtle into the moving truck, or ensuring the chicken doesn’t get into the house. The overworld is a map of the town you work in and if you crash into traffic there’s a goofy explosion and everyone goes merrily on their way. Every level begins and ends with a clever quip from someone on the team, and they never fail to elicit a chuckle or groan.
The thing that really impressed me about this game was the accessibility. They really wanted everyone to be able to play this game, and every character can also be put in a wheelchair with 0 effect on game play. You can modify the game to kingdom come to make it easier for you to play. It’s very clear that this is a team that isn’t just making a game for money or praise, they’re making something for everyone to enjoy.
Some levels were a little frustrating, such as getting a bed out of a door that seems millimetres too small. If I had a second player we could have throw it out the window instead. Eventually I did stop and laugh because when has anyone had fun moving houses, and every bed is always slightly too big for any door no matter what. It’s a rule of the universe apparently!
Final verdict: This game somehow brings joy to the idea of grabbing furniture and packing it into a truck. It’s going to be a hit with anyone you get to play it. And it might be the only time you get to yell “PIVOT!” and people laugh at you instead of groaning at your reference to an outdated show.
Final Score 9/10
+Cartoonish art style
+Great character design
+Complete accessibility
-Sometimes controls are a little cumbersome, but doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
