It’s that time of year again. Whether you’re looking to fill the tough-to-buy-for nerd in your life’s stocking or to add to your own burgeoning collection, Black Friday is the day for you. And pretty well every store under the sun has their specials going all weekend long (some starting on the preceding Thursday) so you don’t have to rush out and fight the crowds to enjoy the savings.
The following are just some of the specials at a few of Ottawa’s most popular destinations for comic books and other nerd essentials this weekend. Don’t forget to drop in and see any unadvertised specials and door crashes they may have as well. So forget Amazon and other online shopping, visit these stores this weekend and drop some dollars.
The Comic Book Shoppe (locations at 1400 Clyde Road and 228 Bank St) will be hosting a giant sale between November 28th and December 1st that allows you to mix and match their most aggressive specials. If your looking to buy any graphic novel/trade paperback, regular priced variant, action figure, statue, clothing, board game or glassware, you’re guaranteed at least 10% off any single item. Buy two and you get 20%. If you really have a list to complete and you pick up three or more of the aforementioned goodies, you save a whopping 30%. The Shoppe is also discounting Manga and Vintage Comics by 20% off and slicing 40% whole percent off Indie Graphic Novels. Buy five Collectible Card Game booster packs and save 10% and there’s a cornucopia of sales on a vast library of back issues. There will also be some door crashes snuck in on Friday.
Over at Myths, Legends and Heroes (256 Bank St., unit #200 on the second floor), their Black Friday Sales will be kicking off Friday November 29th and going all weekend. They’ll be offering select book sets at half off, 15% off back issues and up to 50% off graphic novels and trade paperbacks. You can also get further deals on already marked down books.
Stop into your closest Indigo, Chapters or Coles store this weekend and get 25% off Marvel, DC and Image trade paperbacks, 25% off Dungeons and Dragons books and 25% off games, puzzles and Lego product (which almost never happens).
And if you think a calendar will appease that tough person on your list, stop into your local Calendar Club where you can save up to 15% off product that isn’t already on sale or discounted. Spend enough and you can also snag Indy the teddy bear-who usually retails for fifteen dollars-for only $4.99. On top of that, the Calendar Clubs at Bayshore, Carlingwood, St. Laurent and Tanger malls will donate your new Indy bear to CHEO if you want to bring some smiles to kids stuck in the hospital this Christmas.
So why are you still there sitting there? Grab your wallet, a shopping cart and the closest first aid kit you can find and get shopping.
