During today’s Apple event, Miyomoto unexpectedly took the stage to announce Nintendo‘s next big mobile game, Super Mario Run, which sounds exactly like what it is. Nintendo keeps diving deeper into mobile gaming, and this time they are bringing their most beloved character along for the ride!
Super Mario Run will come first to iOS before more than likely making its way to Android. In Super Mario Run, Mario is constantly moving right (in typical runner fashion) and tapping the screen causes Mario to jump, with the harder the tap the higher the jump. The game has been designed to be able to be played with only one hand.
Super Mario Run brings a new element to the “runner” mobile series, it isn’t and “endless runner”, there are laid out levels where you race against your best time or try to collect as many coins as possible. Also, there are times when Mario can actually move backward as well. Little arrows mark points where, if you time your jump correctly, you’ll get extra hidden coins. Other elements, like climbing along ceilings, look to spruce up gameplay quite a bit. Nintendo has announced that the official Super Mario Run release date has been set for December for iPhone and iPad with an unknown date for Android users.
