HAIL, SOLO! The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that rising star ALDEN EHRENREICH has secured the lead role in Lucasfilm’s unnamed Han Solo prequel. After a long-run battle to land the spot against names like Dave Franco, Taron Egerton and Miles Teller, Ehrenreich delivered a captivating audition that had casting directors convinced. So what does this mean for Han Solo himself?
You may recognize this 26-year-old dreamboat from his appearances in Coen Brothers’ Hail, Ceasar!, and novel-to-film adaptation Beautiful Creatures. Although he’s a fresh face in Hollywood, Ehrenreich (try typing that out a few times) has proven his ability to blend charm and romantic appeal with superb comedic timing in every role he takes. Sound familiar? We’re thinking of someone who’s name rhymes with Marrison Mord.
After a random encounter with Steven Spielberg in his early teens, Ehrenreich has slowly built his acting career from the ground up. As of now, he’s now confirmed for two more projects set to release this year – Yellow Birds, and an unnamed Warren Beatty movie about Howard Hughes. Of course, now that we have our new Han Solo, it’ll be difficult to forget the name Ehrenreich any time soon.
Although few plot details have been revealed about the script, the Star Wars spin-off will follow Han Solo – along with Chewbacca (!!!) – leading up to the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. We’re hoping to see a fresh adaptation of the sci-fi legend before the adventures that sealed his place in cinematic history.
The fandom is strong with this one – let us know what you think! Will Ehrenreich do the character justice?
SPOILER: For what it’s worth, anyone that gives new life to Han Solo is a hero in our books. * sniff *
