Have you ever wanted to play the role of the monster in the games you play? With the board game Boss Monster from Brotherwise Games you can! This card based game allows for four players to go head to head in a game of soul harvesting as each boss monster builds unique sidescrolling dungeons to defeat adventuring heroes. Players use a combination of room cards and spell cards to lure adventurers to their dungeons, competing with each other to create the most enticing dungeon to the heroes. Players win when they harvest ten souls but lose if heroes manage to wound them five times. Juggling the two priorities of luring in heroes but also collecting more souls than your opponents becomes more challenging with more players but no less exciting or fun, especially due to the games mechanic of accumulating heroes if none are attracted to a particular dungeon.
Boss Monster is an all around fun game, great for the entire range of players it supports. Two player games can be just as fun and exciting as four player games with the sheer amount of different effects presented by spell and room cards. There are 75 Room cards and 31 Spell cards in the base game, when combined with the 8 bosses in the box the game has many hours of replayability. With the added bonus of great NES inspired box art and unique pixel art on every card the game is a great purchase. Since its original release 2 expansions have been offered for the game each of which add unique new mechanics and cards to the game.
