Avast ye duckies!!!
Every April Fools, the folks over at Wargaming treat the players to some seriously silly gameplay. This year, they have brought toy boats and a bathtub to their realistic World War 2 era warship game, “World of Warships.” And boy is it fun!
Upon loading up the game, you’ll find four new ships available to use, one for each nation currently in the game. For the U.S. you get the Bottlesheep, for Russia you get the Bathyscrap, for Japan you get the Pokeboat (amazing), and for Germany you get the Das Boot (even more amazing). Each boat is identical aside from their consumable perks which do very little. One gets a small smoke screen, one gets a temporary speed boost, etc. The art style is really cute and fun and you get a little Captain that roams around each boat in port.
You also get to upgrade your Captain with three skill points right away but these hardly matter given the nature of the battles and layout of each boat. Just pick whichever skills you want. Time to hit the high seas and battle it out!
The only map available is a bathtub, complete with rubber duckies and other bath toys, obviously. The sound effects are very cartoonish and work well with the overall aesthetic. Each ship gets two main battery guns that fire slow moving comet-like bursts of colour, along with a single torpedo tube mounted in the bow. The mechanics work just like the regular game mode in that you can set ships on fire, knock out their engines, and cause flooding. Battles are quick and surprisingly intense; inflict 10,000 points of damage and you’re given credits and premium consumables to use on your regular ships. “World of Warships” did a great job for their first April Fools and I look forward to next years!
Ships not your thing? Wargaming also has a “World of Tanks” title that has been around for some time now, hitting the PC way back in 2009. The game has a much bigger following than World of Warships and a lot more content. This year, World of Tanks has gone to the Moon! Enjoy rolling around the low gravity surface in your very own IS-8 BALL!
